_Toll_ is both "feather" and "pen", so it's impossible to tell whether a _tollkereskedő_ deals in bird plumage or writing implements, but combined with _nyerstermény_ (literally "raw produce"), I'm pretty sure it's the former.

In my attempts to figure out Mr. Rosner's business (what the heck is meant by _nyerstermény_, anyway?), I came upon two lawsuits: one where his wife sued her brother-in-law for defamation, and one where Mr. Rosner was convicted of currency fraud.

In-laws' litigation. We recently wrote that the wife of Ödön Rosner merchant reported her brother-in-law, Alfred Stern, for defamation. According to the accusation, Alfred Stern called Ödön Rosner on the telephone and said: "Warn your wife not to come out on the street, because if I see her, I will beat her." The antecedent to this declaration was said to be the long conflict between the two families. At the district court, Alfred Stern denied making the offending statement. He declared that he never called his brother-in-law at the time in question. There was, however, a witness, an old employee of the Rosners, who testified that during the phone call, he/she held the other handset and thus could hear the offending statement quite well. After interrogating several witnesses and inspecting the scene, the court ruled Alfred Stern guilty of defamation, and fined him 50 pengő. The convicted merchant appealed the district court's decision, which is how the case came before the law court's Habermann-council. After presentation of the documents, the law court overturned the district court's ruling and exonerated Alfred Stern of the crime of defamation. The law court justified its exonerating decision: the testimony of the two interested witnesses, the husband and the employee in a dependent relationship, did not support the charge with sufficient certainty for a verdict to be made.

Curia makes stronger judgement in the feather-export and currency-crime case in Szeged
Last year, the royal prosecutor's office of Budapest charged Ödön Rosner, feather wholesaler of Szeged, with the crime of misuse of currency. According to the indictment, in the years 1931-33, Rosner shipped large quantities of feather material to surrounding countries, and when it came time to fill out the documents certifying his currency-surrender duties, he entered smaller sums than the true sale price. He tried to hide his manipulation with fraudulent bookkeeping and the disappearance of certain business letters. According to the indictment, Rosner traded the currency thus acquired on the black market, and thus caused about 70,000 pengő damage to the Hungarian National Bank. The usury court found the defendant guilty of currency fraud and sentenced him to three months in prison. - The curia's Loyczel-council now increased the sentence to ten months in jail for the crime of currency fraud.
