TZVI

son of Reb Dov the Levite

He passed away on the 2nd day of Pesach [Passover] 5682

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

"Tzvi" means deer. The Yiddish word for deer is Hersh/Hirsch. Some men with the name Tzvi -- but certainly not all -- have a secular name similar to Hart or Harry.

"Dov" means bear. Some men -- but certainly not all -- men with this name have a secular name such as Bernard or Barry.

The deceased and his father were Levites, who had special functions in the Temple in Jerusalem and still have special recognition today. This is a designation that is passed from father to son and goes back to Levi, one of the 12 sons of Jacob.

The second day of Passover is always on the 16rh day of the month of Nissan. In the year 5682, this day began at sunset on April 13th, 1922, and ended at sunset on the 14th.
