How nice that you are trying to understand your ancestry. I'll try to help.

This tombstone is in Hebrew, and this is what is customary information. It provides the single or double given name of the deceased as the son or daughter of the given name or names of the father. Generally, surnames are not included. There is also mention of the Hebrew date of the death.

So, here is a translation for you....

"Here lies Abraham Yitzchak, son of Maier, who died on the 26th day of the Hebrew month of Sivan (followed by the Hebrew year). May his soul be bound up in the bonds of eternal life."

Here are some additional approximations...

Abraham Yitzchak = Abraham Isaac (double given name)

Maier = Mayer / Meyer (more of less)

Hebrew month of Sivan = usually falls May-June on the Gregorian calendar.

Hello Savannah,

Based on the first response showing the Hebrew date of death as the 26th of Sivan of year 5708, the date of death on our (Gregorian) calendar was July 3, 1948.
