The dates of death precede the names, which is not the standard.

The names of the mothers appear, which is also not common.

Yankel is the Yiddish form of Yaakov (Jacob). He and his father were Cohanim (plural of Cohen), meaning that they traced their paternal lineage back to Aaron, Moses' brother, who was the first Cohen, priest. The hands that appear above his name are the symbol of this priestly status: they are the position of the Cohen's hands when he blesses the congregation.

The 19th of Tamuz of the year 5766 began at sunset on July 14th, 2006, and ended at sunset on the 15th. The secular date on the stone is the 14th. This means that he passed away between sunset and midnight of that day.
