(Silverstein/Agins/Abramo) Country: USA Town: Brooklyn/Manhattan Date of Image: April 15, 1921	Click the picture to enlarge	The image is of a surname written by the clerk in Brooklyn, NY on the death certficate of Lilie Abramoff Agins on April 15, 1922 as her mother's maiden name (first name: Chaya Rivka). The family was Jewish originally from Minsk. I have searched for Cains/Carns (a handwriting analyst thinks it is that name) and I have not found anything. Cains/Carns are Scottish family names so I thought perhaps that is what the clerk interpreted when the name was told to her by someone with an accent. Any ideas as to what the surname may be? Thank you!

8/23/2021 5:59 AM	It could also be a variation of Cac, pronounced Katz, Cacees or Cacins. If you search Jewishgen Family Finder for Cac, you'll get results Katz. An image of the whole record could help decipher the handwriting.
8/25/2021 7:44 PM	no way to tell but the second letter may be "o"
