Category: Interpretation Approval Date: 8/15/2021 12:12 PM Family Surname: Lyon (Yehuda) Benjamin Country: England Town: London Date of Image: 1862	Click the picture to enlarge	This is the burial registration of Lyon Benjamin, for whom the Hebrew script reads (I understand) 'Yehuda bar Binyamin Bunem'. The registrar wondered whether 'Bunem' might have been a nickname; perhaps it might have been used as a family name in Holland or England, although Lyon used 'Benjamin' as his family name in England. If 'Bunem' was a nickname is there anything in the Hebrew script that might indicate whether that nickname was attached to the name of Lyon or was attached to the name of his father?

8/15/2021 4:16 PM	I did a search on the Hebrew name Bunim. One source gives: "Bunim/Bunem is a variant of the Hebrew Benjamin. Benjamin, literally the "son of my right hand" in Hebrew (Genesis 35.16-18), was the youngest son of Jacob and Rachel" If this were a birth record I would say it was a second given name. In this case, with Bunim a variant of Benjamin, it looks more like what we would consider a nickname.
