GITTIL BLUMA

daughter of Reb Shayah Oziel

She passed away 24 Sivan 5703

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

'Shayah' may be a shortened version of the name Yeshayah (Isaiah).

Hello Steven,

The translation of this tombstone is as follows:

"Here lies Gittel Bluma, Bas/(daughter of) Reb Shia Eziel, who died on the 24th day of the Hebrew month of Sivan (followed by the Hebrew year). May her soul be bound up in the bonds of life."

On the top of the stone, you'll notice an elaborate menorah, an important symbol representing the tradition of the Jewish woman's lighting of the Sabbath and Holiday candles. Perhaps this was a tradition she held close..my first choice...or perhaps it was chosen as a beautiful icon by the family.....Jo

The correct name of her father is neither Eziel nor Oziel.

It's Uziel (or Uzziel), with an "oo" sound. A biblical name in which the "oo" sound on the first syllable it created by the Hebrew vowel mark named "Kubuts" - three lines in a diagonal (top left to bottom right) under the letter.
