Hello Lawrence,

The translation is as follows:

"Here lies Shamai, Ben/(son of) Reb Tzvi, who died on the 13th day of the Hebrew month of Nissan (followed by the Hebrew year). May his soul be bound up in the bonds of life."

**The word "Reb", preceding the single given name of Tzvi, is used as a title of respect, however it does NOT imply rabbi.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

You are looking for "paternal/maternal" lineage. It would be highly unusual to find the mother's name on a traditional tombstone, certainly not on the stone of an Ashkenazic Jew.

The name Tzvi means deer. Men with this Hebrew name sometimes have a secular name similar to Harry or Harold. (This is because the Yiddish word for deer is Hirsch). This does NOT mean that his father had one of these as his secular name, but I wanted to mention it as a possibility for your further research.
