'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

The 20th of Shvat of the year 5706 began at sunset on January 21st, 1046, and ended at sunset on the 22nd. The secular date on the stone is the 21st, which means that Solomon passed away between sunset and midnight of that day.

Both he and his father were Cohanim (plural of Cohen, member of the priestly tribe tracing back, son to father, to Aaron, Moses' brother. Their priestly status is symbolized at the top, with the image depicting the hands of the priest in benediction.

There would normally be an abbreviation at the bottom, representing the phrase "May their souls be bound up in the bond of life." This is not shown here; perhaps it is on the base of the stone, which is cut off in the image.

The surname, inscribed in Hebrew on right side of the tombstone for Etel Leah, is also Betten.
