Hi,
Mollie arrived as "Mariasche" on the ship manifest. It appears that her Hebrew name on the stone is a form of that. Can you please advise on the "correct", or most typical English version of that name. Mariasche, Mariasch, Mariash, or something else?

Mainly educated opinion here.....

Maryashe seems to be a secular given name used in Russia. Chances might be that whoever was responsible for the tombstone used her secular name, inscribed in Yiddish, on the stone.

She may or may not have had a more traditional Hebrew name, however, the closest one that I would suggest would be Miriam.

It would be helpful to you if you would like to check out the JewishJew Given Name Database. Work backwards from Miriam in the country Russia, and you will see the many local and secular variations. Mariasche/Maryashe is one of them.

Assuming that they used the standard convention for indicating vowels by using certain consonants, her name would be read as Ma-ree-ah-shah. It is not a name that I am familiar with, but I would spell it Mariasha.

You can google the name Mariasha and see the meaning.

The Memorial plaque data base on Jewishgen
has about 100 instances of Mariasha as a given name.
