This is a handwritten letter in Yiddish that we found in my grandfather's closet after he died. It appears to be a letter from someone from Lomza, Poland, which is the town he grew up in. He was a Holocaust survivor and survived the concentration camps. I wish I knew what it said! I want to know more about his family in Poland. His name was Irving Bernstein, and his brother's name was Jacob (Jack) Bernstein.

11/4/2026 10:30 PM Hello,

I noticed this post on Sunday. My area of expertise is not Yiddish, although I occasionally translate a short phrase on the back of the photograph.

I just want to respectfully point out that it is not reasonable to expect one unpaid volunteer to decipher and translate an eight-page letter.

The way to post this type of document is to make each page a separate post, identifying each as "page x of an 8-page letter". Posters are permitted 5 posts per week, so you would need to post 4 or 5 of the pages one week, and then the remainder once you have received replies to the first batch.

This way, eight different volunteers might each tackle a page, and you'll have your response.

I'd suggest removing your post, and starting over.
11/5/2026 1:05 PM The letter is from Rakhel Greynerman (unsure about the second letter of the surname) to Yankele (=Jacob). She asks him to write more often and wonders how much he's changed in the four years he has been in America. She agrees to wait until he gets citizenship before going to America. She thanks him for sending $15. She visited her grandmother in Ostrolenka and is close to his mother.
