Category: Translation - German Approval Date: 8/26/2026 4:52 PM Family Surname: Moser Country: Germany Date of Image: June 1887	Click the picture to enlarge	Close-up of the bracketed entry in the Wohnort (residence) column of the Hamburg passenger departure list for the S.S. Rugia, June 1887 (Hamburg Direct Lists, Band 58, image 395 of image group 008907929, FamilySearch). The bracket covers four members of my family, listed as Moser: Bunye (44), Chaje (19), Basche (17) and Lebel (4). The entry is one short place name followed by "Russ." (Russland). Column 6 (Im Staate oder in der Provinz) was left blank on this line, so this single word is my only record of the town they came from. My own readings have been Poethof, Pochhof, Bochhof and Poelhof - it appears to begin with P or B and to end in -of or -hof - but I cannot settle it. Can anyone read this word, or suggest a town in the Russian Empire that would fit? Many thanks.
