Category: Translation - German Approval Date: 8/26/2026 4:52 PM Family Surname: Moser Country: Germany Date of Image: June 1887	Click the picture to enlarge	Composite image I made from the Hamburg passenger departure list for the S.S. Rugia, June 1887 (Hamburg Direct Lists, Band 58, image 395 of image group 008907929, FamilySearch). Four of my family appear together as Moser: Bunye (44), Chaje (19), Basche (17) and Lebel (4). All four share a single bracketed entry in the Wohnort column: one short place name followed by "Russ." Column 6 (Im Staate oder in der Provinz) was left blank, so this bracketed word is my only clue to their town of origin. I have read it as Poethof, Pochhof, Bochhof or Poelhof - it seems to begin with P or B and end in -of or -hof, but I cannot settle it. I have placed the word beside other examples of the same clerk's handwriting from elsewhere on the page so the letterforms can be compared directly. Can anyone read this word with confidence, or suggest what town it might be? Many thanks.
