This is a birth certificate for Carl Stermann, son of Samuel Ignatz Stermann and Anna (nee Frater).

I can see that Carl was born on March 25 1899, and that his birth was legitimate. His father, Samuel Ignatz Stermann, was born in Vienna on September 8 1861. His mother, Anna Frater, was born in Vienna on January 8 1872.

I’d appreciate as much of a translation as possible, especially Carl's parents' marriage date/location/address, birth location/address, name/date of birth of previous/penultimate child of Carl's parents, witnesses' names/addresses, and the open-ended, free-response text on the left-hand side of the certificate.

Also, if any of my limited basic understanding re: basic name/date information is incorrect, please let me know what should be corrected to be most accurate.

Thank you very much!

On  Response
7/19/2026 5:40 PM The father was from Neporadza, Trenčín District. His information is entered as:
Ignaz Stermann, brandy merchant [Brandwein-Verschleißer], born in Neporaz in September 1861 [and registered in] the same place [day of the month is not specified]
His given names are entered again (I believe by the clerk in the office that received this reporting form) as “Sami (:Ignacz:)”; my guess is that this notation indicates that Ignacz (spelled three different ways on this one piece of paper) was the name he went by in daily life.

The notation written vertically in the left margin (by the receiving office clerk) is:
According to the registration certificate issued in Rožnová Neporádza, Trenčín county, Hungary, on 8 Aug 1889, “Ignatz Stermann” is registered there.
(L[au]t Zust[ä]nd[i]gk[ei]ts-Zeugnisses d[e ]d[at]o Rozarn Neporácz, C[o]m[ita]t Trencsín, Ung[arn] 3/8 889 ist [unrecognized abbreviation] “Ignatz Stermann” dorth[in] zust[ä]nd[i]g.)

Child born and parents reside at Stolberggasse 45, District V.

Midwife: Rosa Schreier, Spangergasse 15, District V.

Brit milah: 2 April 1899. Hebrew name Chajim.

Mohel: Dr. [illegible], Schönbrunnerstrasse, District V.

Witness: Carl Bruckmüller, Pressgasse[?] 17, District IV.

Parents’ marriage: 1 Dec 1889.

This reporting form was filed on 5 Apr 1899.

Previous child: Lev, born in Vienna 18 Dec 1894
Notation at bottom of page seems to end in a date “10 April” but is otherwise illegible.
