This headstone is for Sarah Solomons at Edmonton Federation of Synagogues Cemetery, Edmonton, London Borough of Enfield, Greater London, England

Husband: Morris Solomons

I believe both Sarah and her husband Morris were originally from Romania. Would love to have the correct translation from Hebrew to English, especially father’s name. Thank you! Jennifer

Here is interred

Mrs. SARAH daughter of Reb Avraham

wife of Reb Moshe son of Reb Mordechai

She passed away on the 3rd day [of the Jewish week] 20 Shvat 5679

at the age of 42 years

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Avraham is Abraham.

It is not that usual for the name of a woman's husband to be mentioned on her stone. When this does occur, it often indicates that he was an important member of the Jewish community. It is extremely rare for the husband's father to be mentioned.

Moshe is Moses; many men with this religious name have a secular name of Morris or similar, as is the case here.

Mordechai [MORE-deh-chigh, with the ch as in Chanukah or Bach] is a Biblical name, from the Book of Esther.

The 'third day of the Jewish week' runs from sunset Monday to sunset Tuesday.
