Category: Translation - Tombstone Approval Date: 6/24/2026 4:39 PM Family Surname: unk Country: Ukraine Town: Kopaihorod Date of Image: circa 1990	Click the picture to enlarge	I have a series of photos of gravestones I took when I traveled to Kopaihorod in the early 1990s. Please excuse the amateur quality of them. On some I am aware that only part of the inscription is visible. Please translate the Hebrew and or Russian as appropriate. Many thanks. L_03

The text here is a bit mystifying

The top line reads "The Cohen" followed by four letters

The second line reads "Fishels" followed by the same four letters.

If I were to try to read those letters, they might read as "Pinu" or "Pinav". Interestingly, or perhaps coincidentally, the first and third letters form the standard abbreviation on top of a stone -- Pay Nun -- that represent the words "here lies".

I really do not know what to make of it. Perhaps the Russian will shed some light?

Maybe it is a diminutive of the biblical name PINCHOS.
There are many men named Pinchos who are called "Pinny" as a nickname.
