Here lies YECHIEL son of Reb Michel

'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi.

Yechiel is pronounced ye-CHEE-ayl. It is a Biblical name and means 'may G-d live' or 'G-d lives'.

Michel is a Yiddish name. (As there are no vowels, some people might mistakenly read the name as Michal (mee-chahl), but that is a girl's name.)

There are various ideas about the origin of the name Michel. Some opinions are that it is derived from the Hebrew name Michael [mee-chah-ayl]; others say that it is a Yiddish nickname for the Hebrew name Yechiel. (In fact, "Yechiel Michel" is a common "double name". Of course, here each part refers to a different person. Is it possible that Edwin's father died before Edwin was born? That is the only situation where Ashkenazic tradition would allow a child to have the "same" name as the father.)

In all of the above names, the 'ch' is pronounced as in Chanukah or Bach.
