4/26/2026 7:26 PM	MORDECHAI son of Reb Menachem Mendel --------------------------------------------- Mordechai (MORE-deh-chigh, with the ch as in Chanukah or Bach) is a Biblical name, found in the Book of Esther. 'Reb' is an honorific; it does not mean rabbi. "Menachem Mendel" is a common double name, with Menachem coming from the Bible, and Mendel being a Yiddish nickname derived from Menachem.
4/29/2026 12:30 PM	I may be wrong, but I have the feeling that GERC might have been a way to spell what we might read as HIRSCH (or HERSCH). If so, it might also indicate an ancestor who had that as a given name.
