On Friday, September 6, 2019, Phyllis Kramer, long-time volunteer and Director of Education, passed away after a brief illness.
A compassionate and courageous woman, someone who totally rejected self-pity, Phyllis chose not to publicize her health situation. Instead, she used all of her energy, until she could no longer do so, to continue lecturing at conferences, teaching online classes, documenting curriculums and internal processes, and recommending the appropriate people to succeed her when she could no longer continue.
In total, Phyllis devoted nearly three decades to supporting JewishGen’s important work. In her role as Director of Education, she taught thousands of students, and provided personal research assistance at no charge to the many people who sought her advice and guidance. A search of our Discussion Forums will reveal many hundreds of questions that Phyllis responded to.
Her advice, big-picture thinking, and involvement with establishing proper strategic plans helped pave the way for successful fundraising campaigns, content acquisitions campaigns, and volunteer engagement.
She was a kind, compassionate, straight-forward person who is deeply missed. We can only strive to continue the work that will define her legacy for many years to come.
