We are pleased to announce that the data from the 1845 Altona-Hamburg Census is now available via the JewishGen German Collection.

This data set contains all of the Jews of Altona listed in the 1845 census, which totals 2,200 individuals separated by household. The census is remarkable for its time in how much information was provided – not only each member of the house, but also their age, place of birth and religion.

Special thank you to JewishGen Volunteer Michael Moritz, who indexed these records and donated his work to JewishGen, and to Alex Calzareth, JewishGen’s Director of German Research.
