Cemetery Description: |
Jewish Cemetery Topolcany, Topolcany, Slovakia. 946 burials total.
A large Jewish cemetery founded at the end of the 19th century with a preserved ceremonial hall, which houses a small museum of the history of the Jewish community. The cemetery is regularly maintained. The oldest tombstones are those that were moved when the old, original cemetery was closed. Burials were also held here occasionally after World War II. The cemetery is registered as a cultural monument. The cemetery contains a total of 968 tombstones and a mass grave of Holocaust victims. The inscriptions are mostly in Hebrew, with a few in German. Many rabbis and important personalities of Topolcany are buried here. Several volunteers participated in photographing and mapping the cemetery, who selflessly made the results of their work available. https://www.facebook.com/zidovskycintorintopolcany/?locale=sk_SK
