The Genealogical Research Division of

Marriages recorded by ACILBA, the Moroccan Jewish Community in Buenos Aires, Argentina

Introduction By Sarina Roffe

BACKGROUND

Buenos Aires has the sixth largest Jewish community in the world and the largest in South America. Since 1891 Jews have flocked there. The Sephardic marriage records in this group were provided to us by Rabbi Shimon Wahnish, the former head of ACILBA (Latin Israelite Congregation of Buenos Aires the community consisting largely of Moroccan Jews. They cover roughly a 100 year period. The records were provided as images. Volunteers from Sephardic Heritage Project harvested the data points from the actual images. Thanks to the Wahnish family for their work in ACILBA and the contribution to JewishGen
