The Genealogical Research Division of

Circumcision Book of Samuel Gomes Atias

Introduction By Eric Feinstein

BACKGROUND

This is a list of circumcisions conducted by the mohel Samuel Gomes Atias during 1725-1773. For the most part they took place in the southwestern part of France inhabited by the Spanish and Portuguese Jews living around the area of Bayonne, Bidache and Peyrehorade.

The original circumcision book is located in the archives in Bayonne, France. This list is based on the scholarship of the French historian Gerard Nahon (1931-2015) and his article Le registre espagnol des circoncisions de Samuel Gomes Atias (Bidache 1725-1773) in Bulletin Hispanique, tome 76, n°1-2, 1974. pp. 142-182;
