Prague ConscriptionsBackgroundThe database of residence permit applications (conscriptions) of the Prague Police Directorate from the years 1850 to 1918 has been completed and published on the website of the National Archives. The database contains 2,054,852 records of persons whose names have appeared on the conscriptions. See https://www.nacr.cz/en/for-public/research-room/digital-research-room-archival-records-on-line/conscriptions-1850-1918
JewishGen has attempted to extract the Jewish residents of Prague from the database by including only those surnames that appear also in the various Czech Jewish vital records databases on JewishGen. The resulting database certainly contains entries that were not Jewish, so please do not assume that if someone is included in the database that they must have been Jewish or had Jewish background. Many surnames were used by both Jews and non-Jews in Prague. And it is very possible that some Jewish residents of Prague were not included. For a more exhaustive search, please go to the Czech National Archives website: https://digi.nacr.cz/prihlasky2/?session=2a30518cbd6ae6eb870011c1c520eacad737555e78e41a42299da3569c100076&jazyk=en.
