The Genealogical Research Division of

Czech Vital Records

Background

The Czech State Archives have copies of Jewish record books from Bohemia and Moravia that were collected by the Nazis during WWII.  With financial assistance from JewishGen, these have been scanned and made available on the vadamecum.nacr.cz website in Fond 1073 and Fond 241.

The birth, marriage and death records in Fond 1073 begin in 1784, when Austrian Emperor Josef II enacted legislation requiring Jews to make these records.  The Catholic parishes were required to make copies of the Jewish records, now in Fond 241, and these were also used to create this database.

There may be errors in the database, as a result of errors made by the copyists, as well as errors made by the modern transcribers, so be sure to check the originals and other sources to confirm any data.  For further, information click here.

As of September 2023, this database contains:

  • Birth Records: 330,200
  • Marriage Records: 109,352
  • Death Records: 232,663
