Yenta Mash (1922–2013) was born and raised in Zguritsa, Bessarabia. She grew up to be a prize-winning writer. “On the Landing” is a collection of sixteen of Mash’s autobiographical short stories, translated from Yiddish by Ellen Cassedy and published in 2018.
The stories tell of the pre-World War II history of the area, Mash’s Siberian exile, postwar life in Soviet Chisinau (Kishinev), and immigration to Israel.
