Dublin (Irish: Baile Átha Cliath) is the capital city of the Republic of Ireland and the largest city of Ireland, located near half way down the island’s east coast, at the mouth of the river Liffey. Although geographically part of County Dublin, the City of Dublin has had a separate administration for several centuries. Although the City of Dublin has a population of about half a million, there are well over one million people in the Greater Dublin area.

The first community was of Spanish and Portuguese (Sephardi) origin, but these element died out and were replaced by Ashkenazi Jews.
