The Genealogical Research Division of

Jewish New York

Attention everyone!

For all New Yorkers past and present.

Our immigrant ancestors have left a rich legacy in New York City, having lived in various neighborhoods such as the Lower East Side, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Westchester, Long Island, and New Jersey. While we have access to the census and vital records from FamilySearch and ItalianGen, this Refereence Guide delivers links to the more obscure documents that our ancestors generated, such as naturalization papers, probate records, landsmanshaften, voter registrations, newspapers, and court cases.

Some documents can be accessed online and others can only be accessed through various archives on-site.

If you're planning a trip to New York, this Reference Guide will provide you with suggestions on where to conduct your research.
