  • Agricultural Colonies of Southern Ukraine, KehilaLinks
    JewishGen KehilaLinks has a separate website devoted to the Jewish Agricultural Colonies of southern Ukraine. The website includes individual pages for each colony/town/village. Click on the 'Individual Colonies List' button at the bottom of the page to see a list of the Colonies.

  • POLIN Museum Virtual Shtetl Project
    The Virtual Shtetl was created through the efforts of the Jewish Historical Institute Association in 2009. In 2012, the website was taken over by the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. Over the past eight years, the Virtual Shtetl has greatly expanded its resources. It is worth emphasizing that its content is made of some 200 thousand various items (texts, news, photos, genealogical records, interviews, etc.). Many of the formerly Polish towns are in present day Ukraine.

    Topographic Maps of Eastern Europe offers a collection of small and large scale historical maps of the lands of the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and the Pale of Jewish Settlement in late Tsarist Russia. Thousands of communities can be found in these images where our ancestors lived and eventually left.

  • Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People (CAHJP)
    The Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People at Hebrew University in Jerusalem has an extensive town-based collection of documents dating from the late middle ages to the eve of the Holocaust. The Central Archives also has been obtaining from various Archives in Ukraine microfilms of important collections of documents including vital records.

    The first database to include immigration to the United States through Ellis Island. This link will take you to a search form designed by Dr. Stephen Morse, computer whiz, which is easier to use and more flexible than the one provided at the Ellis Island website.

  • FHL FamilySearch Ukraine Wiki
    The FamilySearch Research Ukraine Wiki is a free, online genealogical guide created and maintained by FamilySearch, a non-profit organization. It contains links to genealogy databases, websites, other resources, research strategies, and genealogical guidance to assist in the search for your ancestors. Articles included are locality pages for countries around the world and topic pages that include pertinent genealogy record types explaining how to use the record, what it contains, and how to find it.

    After Dr. Stephen Morse designed a better Ellis Island search form, he realized there was a need for similar access to many databases. This link has all of them.

  • PRA.IN.UA - Ukrainian Database
    The site is in Ukrainian, up on July 2017 there's no English version. The Pra.in.ua project is the largest database of inhabitants of the territory of Ukraine born between 1650 and 1920. As of June 2017, the project base has 2.5 million people. The project development plan envisages that by the beginning of 2018, it will grow to 3 million people, and in 2019 - will reach 4 million. Access to the database is free. All expenses for the creation of the portal, its administration, technical support, development, work on indexing documents and filling the database are made solely by donations from the site users. The site is interactive. A user can add their own information to the database or edit existing records. There is an opportunity to build your own genealogy tree. The program 'pra analytics' developed by our programmers will match the updating of the project base with your pedigree every day, and in case of finding potential strains it will inform you about it (this function will work in July 2017).

    Yad Vashem has more than 1,000 documents, lists, photos and other datasets that deal with Ukraine Jews during the Holocaust period. Their catalog of items can be searched by town name, personal name, and keyword. This is a seriously underused resource.

  • Yahad - In Unum
    A French organization conducting research on the Holocaust by bullets, has identified hundreds of killings sites of Jewish victims murdered during WWII and has recorded more than 1,500 interviews of eyewitnesses (bystanders) of the Shoah in the Ukraine. You can access the video testimonies, photos and archives for each village investigated by town name, by geo-localization and by keyword.

  • Yahad Map of Execution Sites of Jewish Holocaust Victims
    Yahad - In Unum, a French organization conducting research on the Holocaust by bullets, created an interactive map indicating the mass execution sites located by Yahad teams in which the Nazis and their allies murdered Jews in towns and villages throughout Eastern Europe. Each site includes a link to a brief profile and research findings (video testimonies, archives, photos) for each location.
