Regional Special Interest Groups
JewishGen hosts web pages for several
"Special Interest Groups" (SIGs), whose interest is a
geographic region of origin, or special topic.

Austria-Czech SIG
Bohemia and Moravia (now the Czech Republic), plus parts
of Austria, especially Vienna.

Belarus SIG
The former Russian Empire gubernii of Grodno, Minsk, Mogilev,
Vitebsk, and southern Vilna, now in Belarus.

Bessarabia SIG
The former Russian gubernia of Bessarabia, which is now in Moldova,
with parts in Ukraine. Also covers Transnistria (Pridnestrovie),
a small region on a left bank of the Dniester.

Białystok
Region
The city of Białystok and nearby towns and villages,
currently in Poland, formerly in the Russian Empire's
Grodno Gubernia.

Courland SIG
Kurland gubernia, now southern Latvia.

Danzig/Gdańsk SIG
Danzig/Gdańsk, and its precursor communities of
Alt Schottland, Langfuhr, Mattenbuden, Weinberg, and
Danzig in der Breitgasse, and Tiegenhof (Nowy Dwór Gdański).

Early American SIG
Jewish families who came to the United States before the
larger immigration waves of the 1880s and later.

French SIG
France and French colonies, as well as other French-speaking areas
such as Belgium, Luxembourg and Switzerland.

Gesher Galicia *
Austrian Poland, a province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire
from 1772 until 1917, now in southern Poland and
western Ukraine.

German-Jewish SIG
Germany and German-speaking areas of Alsace, Lorraine,
Switzerland, and Poland.

Hungary SIG
"Greater Hungary" or pre-Trianon Hungary, includes areas
that at one time were predominantly Hungarian speaking.
This includes all of present-day Hungary and Slovakia, and territory
now within Ukraine, Austria, Romania, Croatia and Serbia.

Latvia SIG
The former Russian Empire gubernias of Courland,
southern Livonia (Livland), and western Vitebsk.

Kovno and Vilna guberniyas of the Russian Empire,
which includes most of present-day Lithuania.

Łódź
area
The city of Łódź, Poland, and localities within a
40-mile radius – in Congress Poland's gubernias of
Piotrków, Płock, Warszawa, or Kalisz.

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland
(JRI-Poland) *
An organization with the mission to index all the
Jewish vital records in Poland.

Romania SIG
Romania (including Bukovina).

Scandinavia SIG
Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark - including the former
Danish colonies and protectorates.

Sephardic SIG
For all researchers of Sephardic genealogy and history.

Southern Africa SIG
Including South Africa, Lesotho (Basutoland), Botswana (Bechuanaland),
Zimbabwe (S. Rhodesia), Zambia (N. Rhodesia), Swaziland, Mozambique
and the former Belgian Congo.

Sub-Carpathia SIG
Sub-Carpathian Ukraine – parts of the pre-WWI Hungarian megyék
of Bereg, Máramaros, Ugocsa and Ung – today Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine.

Suwalk-Lomza SIG *
Publisher of Landsmen, covering these two northeastern gubernias
of Russian Poland, now in northeast Poland and southwest Lithuania.

Ukraine SIG
The former Russian Empire gubernias now in the Ukraine:
Podolia, Volhynia, Kiev, Poltava, Chernigov, Kharkov,
Kherson, Taurida and Ekaterinoslav.

United Kingdom - Jewish Communities
and Records
JCR-UK is a project to record genealogical and historical information
about the Jewish communities of the United Kingdom.
A joint project of JewishGen and JGS Great Britain.
