JewishGen-erosity — Romania Regional Projects
Holding more than 1.2 million records, the JewishGen Romania Research Division preserves and shares
the rich history of Jewish life in historic Romania, including Moldova, and historic Bessarabia
through archival records, vital records, and specialized research initiatives. The Division
documents life in small shtetls and outlying communities, offering a comprehensive view of
social, economic, and cultural life across centuries, including census data, voter lists, business
directories, vital records, and records of Holocaust survival and Soviet-era persecution.
The Romania Research Division focuses on initiatives that preserve Jewish heritage and make it accessible
to researchers and descendants. The Bucharest Records Project and Iasi County Records Project
index the names of Jewish residents in these regions, while the Romania Cemetery Project
documents and protects Jewish burial sites, safeguarding the memory of entire communities.
