JewishGen-erosity — USA related projects and initiatives
The JewishGen USA Research Division explores the lives of Jews in America from 1654 to the
present with the goal of educating, identifying, indexing, and sharing historical records of
genealogical value. Drawing from synagogue archives, obituaries, immigration lists, military and
Civil War records, newspapers, refugee files, and personal genealogical submissions, the
Division offers researchers access to more than 1.9 million synagogue records, including
membership lists, lifecycle records, and other congregational and community materials that are
often inaccessible elsewhere.
Donations predominantly support the acquisition, transcription, indexing, and digitization of
records from Jewish institutions, archives, newspapers, and other sources across all time periods
in the United States. They also enable the Division to develop and deliver programs, webinars,
and events that educate and engage researchers and the public in the study of American Jewish
history
