The Genealogical Research Division of

Translation of
Sefer zikaron le-kehilat Rozan (al ha-Narew)

(Rozhan Memorial Book)

Project Leader: Lester Blum
JewishGen Liason/Advisor: Lance Ackerfeld

Project Description

The goal of this project is to translate the Różan Memorial Book (Sefer Zikaron le-kehilat Rozan al ha-Narew) from the original Yiddish/Hebrew version into English.  Professional translators will breathe life into the articles written by the survivors of the Holocaust to document and memorialize the community of Różan.

There are millions of stories lost in the shadow of the Holocaust. This English translation will release a wealth of information to researchers, historians, and those interested in Różan. Through the collective memories and photographs, our knowledge of a vibrant world, prior to and during the Holocaust, will be vastly expanded.

By this remembrance, we will have negated the Nazi regime’s goal of obliterating the Jewish existence.

The Różan Memorial Book is a tribute to all who perished and a testament of survival.

Key Audiences

The main audience for this book would be the descendants of those who lived in Różan, Poland. The secondary audience would be researchers/historians interested in the wide range of social, political, and religious information presented in a first-hand manner. The third audience would be the general reader who would be interested original source material of Jewish life of the era.

Project Importance

The translation is funded solely by donations, which are tax deductible. The translators will work on each article as they appear in the original book. As sections are translated, they will be uploaded to https://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/rozan/rozan.html

Once the entire translation is completed, reviewed and edited, JewishGen Press will publish the book.
