Please contact Dr Saul IssroffSouth African Jewry, 1967-68The book, South African Jewry, 1967-68 Edition, was edited by Leon Feldberg and published by Feldhill Publishing Co, Johannesburg, South Africa in 1968. The book is a survey of the Jewish community, its contributions to South Africa, and includes a directory of communal institutions as well as a who's who of leading personalities in the community at that time. This book provides an invaluable snapshot – forever frozen in time – of South African Jewry and its immense contribution to South African life in the late 1960s. As noted in Feldberg's introduction, the longer articles in the book are "contributions to South African Jewish historiography".
Jeremy Hodes, of New South Wales, Australia, has created a web site that includes 2425 biographies and several longer articles drawn from the material in the book. Every word in the biographies and articles is searchable through the search box on Jeremy's web page. The search capability is useful for finding information about locations, spouses, employment, etc. One can use the page itself, the name labels at the right, or the search box to find the information you are seeking.

Jeremy's project was completed in memory of his father, Lionel Harris Hodes, the General Secretary of the South African Zionist Federation from 1969-1973, for his communal service and contributions to South African Jewry. Jeremy can be reached at jeremy2929@gmail.com.
