My father, Jakob Kapelusz (Jerry Kapelus) was a child survivor of the Lodz Ghetto, Auschwitz and Buchenwald. He was one of the Boys of Buchenwald who were liberated from Buchenwald by the US Army and given a safe home in Paris by the Oeuvres de Secures aux Enfants (OSE). Jerry rarely talked about this part of his life until the emergence of Holocaust deniers in the 1980s. He spent the next 25 years giving his Holocaust testimony. I had promised him that I would continue to tell his story when he no longer could. After he died in 2021, we pulled together what we knew about Jerry from his recorded and written testimonials, documents among his private papers and further historical research, and created this book about his life. This book was meant as a legacy for Jerry's grandchildren and their descendents and as such, the book is very personal. I hope that what we have written here provides new information and insights for others who are interested in the Lodz Ghetto, concentration camps and OSE Paris.
