Address:

14 Black Lion Yard, London E1 (although, after World War II moved "temporarily" to 42a Old Montague Street, but does not appear to have returned to original building.)

(Location: Black Lion Yard no longer exists (there being a Black Lion House to indicate its former position.). It ran south 250 feet from Old Montague Street to Whitechapel Road, parallel to, and just to the west of, Greatorex Street (formerly Great Garden Street).

Black Lion Yard was known as the "Hatton Garden of the East End", as this little network of courtyards and alleys contained almost twenty Jewish-owned jewellery shops.

The locality is now in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, created on 1 April 1965, within the administrative area of Greater London.

Previously, Black Lion Yard was in the Metropolitan Borough of Stepney (established 1900) in the County of London (established 1889), both of which entities were abolished in 1965.

It was also within the civil parish of Whitechapel, which was abolished in 1927, being absorbed into Stepney Borough parish, which itself was abolished in 1965.
