For several years now, the Kobryner landsleit in Argentina have cherished the idea of publishing a Pinkas Kobryn a volume that would preserve, in Yizkor-form, the rich life, the creative achievements, and the tragic destruction of Jewish Kobryn.
At the initiative of the Kobryner Landsleit Fareyn, a special book committee was formed, consisting of: Melekh Glotzer, chair; Nakhum Priluk, vice-chair; Itsl Kobryniets, secretary; Aharon Khludnyevitsh [Chłodniewicz], associate secretary; Berl Adler, treasurer; and the members Leybe Avrukh, Yakov Begun, and Yisroel Blezhovski. The committee approached its task with the utmost seriousness, launching an energetic campaign to collect materials.
The chair of the Pinkas Committee, our friend Melekh Glotzer, threw himself into this work with heart and soul, contributing an extraordinary amount of effort to the selection and preparation of the collected materials.
We consider it necessary to state that the chair of the Pinkas Committee has no editorial training and therefore makes no editorial claims. His genuine good will, persistence, and serious attitude toward our cherished Kobryn sphere moved him and gave him the courage to gather and prepare the material with great devotion, care, and simplicity.
The brutal murder of our dear Kobryner Jews by the accursed German killersmay their names be erasedshattered us to the core. The voice of the blood of the people of Kobryn cries out from the earth [Genesis 4:10] torments our conscience and demands a memorial.
We believe that with this book we offer a tikn [tikkun, a spiritual act of repair] for our dear Kobryn brethren who perished al kiddush ha-Shem [martyrdom for the sanctification of God's name].
May this book preserve their sacred memory, and may future generations gain an understanding and lasting remembrance of the great, cultured, and heroic Kobryn that brought such honor to the Jewish name.
We believe that this book will serve as a monument to our spiritual Kobryn community, which has vanished, and at the same time will serve as a continuation of Am Yisrael Chai the living Jewish people building their new home in their own land, in the State of Israel.
We express our deepest thanks to Mrs. Fanny Glotzer for her diligent collaboration in preparing the appropriate illustrations, contributing to the aesthetic appearance of this book. We likewise thank our esteemed townsman Yakov Novik for his assistance

in recopying the collected, corrected materials with great willingness and meticulous care. Our special thanks go to our esteemed landsleit and supporters, whose contributions made the publication of this Zamlbukh Kobryn [memorial anthology of Kobryn] possible.
We deeply regret that our fellow Kobryner in North America as well as in Israel did not respond to all our repeated appeals over the course of the year regarding the joint publication of the Pinkas Kobryn. Their participation would have contributed greatly and would surely have given the edition a broader scope.
The countless invitations as well as the notices in the newspapers will, we hope, serve as our excuse regarding those landsleit who did not come forward to collaborate in this undertaking.
