We Shall Remember

our brothers and sisters who were put to death, may God avenge their blood, the martyred members of the community of Rohatyn, young and old, men women and children, who were persecuted to death by the greatest oppressor of the Jews of all generations, and who were not permitted Jewish burial. We shall remember all the Jews of our town and its surroundings together with all of the martyred members of the house of Israel in Poland and Europe, their exciting lives and their variegated activities – educators and artisans, merchants and intellectuals – who kept the Jewish spark alive in the Diaspora while raising Zion above their highest joy. Let this book be an eternal memorial over their unknown graves, a remembrance until the last generation.
