50 Jewish families lived in Balaceana. They engaged in farming, cattle raising and trade. There was a prayer house of the Chasidim of the Wiznitzer rabbinic family and a ritual bath as well as a religious school. The Jews of the town were know for their knowledge of the Talmud and their piety. They were similarly victims of Nazi German and Romanian bestiality.
