About This Project
This project is being initiated in order to fund the translation of the one volume, 1148 page, yizkor book. This book has English title of “Yiskor book in Memoriam of Our Hometown Kurów.”
Historical Significance
Kurów is a village in what is now so-called south-eastern Poland, located between Pulawy and Lublin, on the Kurówka River. According to the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, the first Jews appeared in Kurow in the mid-16th Century. By 1892 the Jewish Population was 2,486 and by 1942 completely eradicated by Nazi Germany.
Currently, there is little information available to the English speaking world regarding Kurów or its Jewish community. With the destruction of the Jewish community in 1942, the information in this yizkor book constitutes much of its documented history. This project will result in the creation of the primary English language source of information for anyone doing research on the town and its Jewish community.
