· Searching the Database
This collection comprises a list of Jews born in Germany who were deported from Italy in 1943-1944 to Auschwitz. Some of the 1943 deportations went via France (Drancy) and already appear in the German Gedenkbuch (The Gedenkbuch is a four-volume set of the German Memorial Book for the Victims of the Holocaust who originated from Germany). The 1944 deportations went direct to Auschwitz (with a few exceptions which are noted) and none of these names appear in the Gedenkbuch. These names have been sent to the Bundesarchiv (German Federal Archives) who will hopefully add these names to their records.
A few of the deportees survived and their status is noted. Please note that this list is limited to Jews born in Germany. If there were other family members born elsewhere they were not included. The largest nationality included in the source was Austrian, with additional Jews from Hungary, France, Greece and elsewhere.
The original source material usually includes additional information such as parents' names, addresses etc. That information is available on request from the US Memorial Holocaust Museum at the address found below under "Acknowledgements".
