Background

In 1944, several thousand Jewish prisoners were sent from Auschwitz and Mauthausen to Hannover/Ahlem for forced labor.  There are incomplete records on the fate of these persons (see separate list of persons who perished) but the following list names 243 persons who survived and were placed in the Heidehaus hospital in Ahlem in April 1945.  Some died there, but most apparently survived.
