I learned about this diary from my mother's cousin Monio.  He was a retired pharmacist in San Francisco who became interested in genealogy.

Several years ago he was contacted by two sisters. They thought the diary belonged to their grandfather and were having it translated.  Eventually they realized this was not their grandfather's diary. The translator, knowing of Monio, suggested they contact him.

Amazingly it turns out he is the nephew of Israel Goldhirsch.  He received the translated diary and emailed it to me.

I wanted to preserve Israel's story. Clearly he wanted it known.  I also wanted to honor him.  It is due to his perseverance that I am here, that my mother, aunt, uncle, my cousins and their children and grandchildren are here and thriving in the US.
