Latest revision or update: 19 February 2013 City of Preston The city of Preston, on the river Ribble in North West England, is now the county town of Lancashire. It forms the greater part of the district of Preston, which has a population of about 130,000. The present boundaries date from 1974, when the then borough of Preston merged with adjoining areas to form a district of the county of Lancashire.
