City of Preston

The city of Preston, on the river Ribble in North West England, is now the county town of Lancashire. It forms the greater part of the district of Preston, which has a population of about 130,000.  The present boundaries date from 1974, when the then borough of Preston merged with adjoining areas to form a district of the county of Lancashire.

Preston Jewish Community

A Jewish community developed in Preston towards the end of the nineteenth century and reached its peak by the end of World Wat II. Therafter it began to decline and the only synagogue closed in the 1980s.
