Uzuguostis

Written by Josef Rosin

In Yiddish, Uzhgost

Translated by Shaul Yannai

A village in the Trakai district, 15 km east of Jieznas. A number of Jewish families lived in Uzuguostis during the period of Independent Lithuania. 5 Jews from the village voted to the first Lithuanian Seimas in 1922. In June, 1941, when Germany conquered Lithuania, the fate of the Jews of Uzuguostis was the same as the fate of the Jews in the surrounding areas. All of them were murdered during the autumn of 1941 by Lithuanians who cooperated with the occupying Nazi authorities.
