ABRAHAM BERKOWITZ
(photograph)

He is Alter the little box maker's grandson. Leizer Berkowitz, one of the active members of the “Yiddish Literary Society,” is his father. He emigrated from Czenstochow to South Africa and was a corporal in the South African army during the Second World War, went through Eretz Yisroel to Libya (previously an Italian colony). In Eretz-Yisroel he met friends from Czenstochow and gave them greetings from landsleit [countrymen] in South Africa who often come together.

As a Czenstochower in the South African army, who marched on Libya – he was a living symbol of our Jewish Czenstochow, which will again live in all parts of the world wherever our children are found.
