City of Worcester

The historic city of Worcester lies on the river Severn in the English West Midlands and has a population of over 90,000.   It was a county borough in the county of Worcestershire until 1974, when it became a local government district, initially within the relatively short-lived county of  Hereford and Worcester and, from 1998, within the newly reconstituted county of Worcestershire.

The Congregation was formally established in about 1948, having developed from the Membership Group, which had been formed by evacuees from heavily populated areas of Central & Eastern London, during WWII, and was linked to the United Synagogue.

Current Status:

Closed about 1970.

Ashkenazi Orthodox

Affiliation:

An Affiliated Synagogue of the United Synagogue since 1948.
