The Taub story: Families reunited after 62 years

The most amazing thing then happened. Mabel spoke with her mother, Sarah, who told her that her father's real name was not Eliau Rosenvald, but Jacob Taub. Sarah said he had changed his name to escape the army...

During the Second World War, Raymond Taub was imprisoned by the Germans in Hungary, then escaped to join the Polish Division of the British Army. His brother, Jacob, was believed to have escaped to South America. After the War, both brothers tried to find their siblings through the Red Cross, but each was told there were no survivors.

In August 2001, three years after Raymond's daughter added his name to the JewishGen Holocaust Global Registry, they received an email from the daughter of Eliau Rosenvald, of Buenos Aires. Although the names were different, the similarities between Jacob and Eliau were intriguing, and she wondered if they might be cousins.
