Alternatively, narrow your search by clicking "Search Archive," above, and type specific search terms.

Your input deserves our thanks and praise, for it may help a Gen'er in new and rewarding ways.
Countless unnamed and dedicated volunteers from across the globe deserve our gratitude. They freely offer their time and skills responding to ViewMate requests. Giving to others will come back to them.

Note: Viewmate's first saved image is #227.

To sort by a column, click the column title. Then click the sort icon [D] to reverse the order.

26512 Interpretation

3/10/2013 4:58 PM Excerpt from passenger manifest of SS Pennsylvania, arrived 1 Feb 1907, p. 69. I can make out some of this - Shmuel Weiser, New York, 58 E 4th St. It's a safe assumption that the addresses are in Manhattan.

The passengers are:
1. Josef Akkermann
2. Beruch Weiser
3. Elie Weitzman

The last line in the image belongs primarily to the traveler on line no. 4.

Can you help me transcribe the names and addresses?

26514 Photo Identification

3/10/2013 4:58 PM The elderly lady on the very left of picture is wearing what I believe to be Portuguese or Spanish national dress or Mourning dress. Her ancestors were believed to be from Portugal migrating in the late 1700's. They may be Sephardic Jews. I am trying to trace her parents. Her name is Clara Holloway nee Davis. Father on birth cert. is David Davis and mother is Julia Soares/Sears. Any information on the family appreciated. Birth date was 10th Sept. 1854 in Umberston St. Whitechapel. 3/10/2013 4:57 PM I have a translation, but I need to know if I send $21. for docs or $21+$120. Is the $120 in zloty's or USD? I do not understand the second lump-fee banking postal. Is this like postage and handling? Also, what does "please enter the character transfer case" mean? Thank you. View the post with its 2 responses

26510 Translation - Yiddish

3/10/2013 4:57 PM This is a fragment of a salutation on the back of a photo of an older and younger sister, possibly taken in Europe (Poland) in the 1930s. Hoping there is a name to determine the identity of these girls and their possible relationship to my grandmother, Rose Kelman in the U.S.
Part of it may be covered by the glue and paper of the photo album from which it was removed. Whatever information proved would be helpful.
Thank you,
Mady Land

3/10/2013 4:55 PM I received about 12 records of my ancestors from the Poznan State Archives in Poland and cannot read a word of this (my loss!) Can anyone help me with translating these M, B and D records? Here is one record, they all look fairly similar except for some that were written on very large paper.
Thanks very much,
