4/22/2020 3:24 PM Here lies

All are mourning

We mourn for these

His eye, his eye, lets water fall [he cries]

[the two lines above are paraphrased from the synagogue service on Tisha B'Av, a day of mourning for the destruction of both Temples in Jerusalem]

upon the death of our mother, his teacher,

the dear, the important, the modest,

and who was learned in the Torah and in her actions,

She acted justly all her life.

Mrs. TZIPORAH, daughter of Reb Dov, may he rest in peace,

who died on Purim, a Thursday, of the year 5701.

May her soul be bound up in the bond of life.

Note that 'Reb' is an honorific; her father was not a rabbi.

There is a bit of inconsistency in the grammar in this stone. One example is in calling the deceased, "OUR mother, HIS teacher".

The date of her death is given in terms of the holiday upon which it fell. Purim is a festival commemorating the rescue of the Jews from a plot for their destruction in ancient Persia. The story is told in the Biblical Book of Esther.

The actual calendar date of Purim is the 14th of Adar in a standard (12-month) year, and the 14th of Adar II in a (13-month) leap year.

4/23/2020 7:24 AM A voice of people crying

Upon these do we cry

Our eyes o’ our eyes are crying water

Our dear, our important, our humble

and learned in the Torah

Who throughout her life has done charitable deeds

Mrs Zipora daughter of Dov ( a bit unclear) peace be upon her

Passed away on Thursday, Purim, the year התשא
